We did our own comprehensive test to show an unbiased review of SiteGround to our readers.
SiteGround is a recommended web host by WordPress.org, you can have a look at their site. This is due to free SSL, PHP 7, safe and secure server accompanied by a great support team.
They have their servers at London(UK), Amsterdam(NL), Milan(IT), Chicago(US), Singapore(SG). All their servers have a high available network, redundant electrical systems, high-end physical security. To also maintain the speed, they used all SSD drives and NGINX web server coupled with free CDN and homegrown caching technology which they call “SuperCacher”. To be also noted that all servers are HTTP/2 enabled which will soon become a need and it also increases site performance.
SiteGround has always focused on speed. It is good to see that the brand is focusing on performance by using SSD in all their servers. SiteGround has also enabled HTTP/2 on all their servers to decrease the connection by using the latest protocol technology.
We were constantly monitoring their server’s performance and in our test, we were getting a response time somewhere between 400ms to 570ms. In general, the speed is good as there are few brands with 1000+ms load time. You can increase your speed by using their server level caching technology known a SuperCacher. You can see more here.
To maintain this speed, they have developed and implemented multiple technologies. They have developed their own server level caching technology to cache your static content, when combined with CDN this works wonders.
Uptime is an essential part of every online business. A downtime of few minutes can cause a loss of thousands of dollars. We understand importance hence we had our own site constantly monitoring SiteGround’s uptime. In our tests we were getting results between 100% to 99.95%, which is great as many brands promise to provide a high uptime but fail to. In the case of uptime SiteGround gets a thumb up from us. More data can be seen here.
To achieve they use multiple technologies like; Linux Containers, Pro-active Server Monitoring, Unique Anti-bot AI. All together these ensure high uptime as well as it mitigates brute force attacks and bot attacks.
SiteGround has always been known for its great customer support. They have a very active and knowledgeable support team. When you interact with their team you will see how supportive and helpful they are, they have been a special training before they start working. Their support mode includes 24/7 ticket support, call support and chat support. Over 230 people at SiteGround are engaged with customer support only to make sure clients are taken good care of and support is provided in three languages – English, Spanish and Italian. SiteGround provides support beyond their scope of service, they will always help you to maintain your site.

Yes! I switched in December to them and I couldn’t be happier. I wish I had done it sooner.— Kait Souch (@misskait) April 22, 2018
Siteground! Idk if they migrate for free, I think they might? But their costumer service is excellent and I’ve never had any problems— Elizabeth Hunter (@thatlizhunter) July 23, 2019
WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT SiteGround
Caching of static content is very important when you need to have a fast loading site in your portfolio. To make this better SiteGround has developed a server level caching technology known as “SuperCacher” based on NGINX reverse proxy. It basically caches static content a serve data from cache when needed.
SuperCacher works great with CMS like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. To be noted that one should carefully use any caching plugin when using a server level caching technology. Never cache your cache.
FREE CDN AND SSL
SiteGround is an optimized hosting provider of Cloudflare, due to this reason you get free CDN from Cloudflare and “Railgun” for free which costs 200$. Railgun helps to speed up data transfer between origin server and CDN server hence speeding your site. Cloudflare Railgun works great with dynamic sites like one made using WordPress.
Free SSL is being provided to all the users of SiteGround through Let’s Encrypt as SSL has now become one of the factors which will affect site ranking.
HTTP/2 ENABLED SERVERS
HTTP/2 is the latest protocol which helps to make your site load faster. It needs an encrypted connection and with help of free Let’s Encrypt SSL you get the HTTP/2 enabled servers. HTTP/2 performs better than HTTP/1.1, instead of client request to assets the server simply “push” the resources. This avoids round trip.
SiteGround has recently developed an in-house bot mitigation technology called Anti-Bot AI. It helps to track bad bots and stop all brute force attacks to keep the server and your sites safe and up running. This AI improves itself over the period. It scans all the failed login attempts on web applications, simultaneous connections and all request types known for DDoS attacks. The AI then identifies all bad bot traffic and challenges them by captcha.
WHAT’S NOT GOOD ABOUT SiteGround
PRICE HIGHER ON RENEWAL
All good things come with some bad features too. Though SiteGround provides huge discount for the first sign-up but renewal prices tend to be higher, but you can always go for a long period.
Be it the StartUp, GrowBig or GoGeek plan; you will have limited storage. They have 10GB, 20GB and 30GB storage limitation respectively. Like other major hosts SiteGround doesn’t provide an option to add additional storage.
SiteGround has always been a reliable hosting provider. It our we found that their performance is constant, and the uptime is brilliant. They have a great support team and only a few have such a support. SiteGround is a sure go if you are looking for great performing SSD based hosting.
